Simple Stats, Streamlined Checks
Stats are single digits added to d20 Rolls. These Stat Checks need to meet or beat the Target Number. The Target is set by the Game Master and displayed in the open during play.
A fixed Target number keeps the game moving. No more asking "What do I need to roll?" and "Did I do it?" Players will always know if they succeed or fail right away. Target numbers also eliminate the need for Stats for NPC's, reducing the load on the GM.
No Classes! No Levels!
Characters start with Stats and Stuff. XP is rewarded at the end of each session and spent during Downtime. Characters spend XP to Train up their Stats and Learn new Skills and Spells from Mentors. These are then added to the Character Sheet.
This takes the entire meta-game of character progression out of the books and puts it back in the World. NPC's are now an integral part of advancement, incentivizing players to invest in relationships. Players will have to use the tools they find in the fiction rather than simply picking the most optimal features from a catalogue.
Push Your Luck Spellcasting!
Instead of spending "slots" or "mana points" on spell casting, mages will instead accrue Echo for each spell they cast. The higher your Echo, the higher the odds of rolling a Miscast! Loud, chaotic magic users tend to attract attention to themselves. The weird spirits that live upon the Leylines are a fickle lot...
Analogue Focus
We are dedicated to making our game playable at the table with pencil and paper just as Gary intended. Digital products will be affordable, printer friendly, and easy to reproduce at home. Character sheets, monster stats, and other organizational tools will be made with good ol' three ring binders in mind.
These are only some of the ways we hope to bring a new flavor of fun to your gaming table!
Symmetrical Modes
We've given equal attention to our four Modes of Play: Downtime, Exploration, Delving, and Combat, ensuring that no part of the game is overshadowed by another. This allows Players to build around the aspects of the game they enjoy most. Supporting tools and tables make preparing each Mode a fun game in its own right. We want the GM to have just as much fun as the Players!
Active Defense
The Monster is attacking you, what do you do?
Block: Roll your armor die to reduce incoming damage!
Dodge: Get out of the way to avoid damage entirely or take it all to the face!
Stunt: Improvise a response! A creative risk that just might pay off!
Active defense rules keep Players engaged during the GM's Turn! Use context clues during the fight to pick the best option! Some attacks may be impossible to dodge or ignore armor! Choose wisely!
